Consider the points R , A , M and P . If they are joined in the same order, predict:
(i) Two sides of RAMP that are perpendicular to each other.
(ii) One side of RAMP that is parallel to one of the axes.
(iii) Two points that are mirror images of each other in one axis. Which axis will this be? Now plot the points and verify your predictions.

AIMS SOLUTION / EXPLANATION
R · A(0, -2) · M(-5, -2) · P(-5, 2)
Given:
Vertices joined in the given order.
To Find:
Perpendicular sides, an axis-parallel side and a reflection pair.
Property:
Horizontal and vertical lines are perpendicular; x-axis reflection changes y to −y.
Solution:
AM is horizontal because y = −2 at both ends. MP is vertical because x = −5 at both ends.
Thus AM ⟂ MP. AM is parallel to x; MP is parallel to y.
M and P have equal x and opposite y, so they reflect in the x-axis.
Results:
AM and MP are perpendicular. M and P are mirror images across x.
